In a recent interview on Sunday, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa shared insights into the tactics employed by villagers in the Northeastern part of the country to hide weapons after troops successfully neutralized terrorists.
Musa, who served as the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the region, highlighted the challenges faced by security forces.
He explained, “As a theater commander in the North East – Harden-Kai – for 19 months, terrorists would come to a village with weapons to launch an attack.
Despite our efforts to eliminate them, villagers would preemptively hide the weapons, only to later use them against us from the rear.”
Expressing concern about the erosion of traditional values, General Musa called on religious leaders and traditional rulers to play a pivotal role in reevaluating the nation’s value system.
He stated, “We are witnessing a decline in family values, reaching a point where even within a family, a sibling might resort to kidnapping and demand ransom from their parents.
Society has become overly monetized, with the belief that financial solutions can resolve all issues.
These are the pressing matters we need to address.”
Addressing the decline in family values, Musa urged religious leaders and traditional rulers to refocus on instilling principles of God, faith, and sincerity in people’s lives.
He concluded, stating, “It’s essential to recognize that while Nigerians may be religious, there is a need for a deeper commitment to godliness in our actions and values.”
