    Violence Rocks Nigerian Universities : Ondo Student Shot,TASUED Students Raped

    Two Nigerian universities ; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State and Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagu,Ogun State have  recorded violent incidents, leaving one  student dead, two raped.

    While  a  300-Level Linguistics student of AAUA, simply identified as Emmanuel, was shot dead in his off-campus hostel by unidentified assailants, two female students of TASUED were raped after losing their belongings to the attackers.

    PLATFORM TIMES reports that the  motive behind the attack in Ondo  remains unknown, though there are speculations of cult-related activities, which have yet to be confirmed.

     Oladele Emmanuel, vice chairman of the National Association of Universities Students (NAUS), confirmed the tragic death of the AAUA student  in a statement released on Monday. 

    Expressing profound sorrow, he called for a thorough investigation. 

    “The circumstances surrounding this tragedy remain unclear, leaving us all with questions and a deep sense of loss,” Comrade Emmanuel said. “In times like these, our collective safety and well-being must be our paramount concern.”

    He urged the AAUA management, the state government, and security operatives to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that justice prevails swiftly. 

    “It is imperative that justice prevails swiftly, and the perpetrators of this heinous act are held accountable,” he added.

     He also emphasised the need for increased security measures, such as better lighting and more accessible emergency services.

    In a separate horrific incident, two 100-level female students of TASUED were allegedly raped by suspected robbers on Monday. 

    PLATFORM TIMES learnt that the attack occurred around 12:30 am when the armed robbers invaded the students’ apartments, forcibly taking their personal belongings before leading them to an uncompleted building where they took turns raping them.

    A source at the school,pleading anonymity  disclosed that the suspects, armed with guns, forced the students to surrender their phones and other belongings before committing the heinous act. 

    The spokesperson for the State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that efforts to apprehend the suspects were ongoing.

    “The incident was reported at the Igbeba Police Division at about 10:00 am. Our operatives immediately combed the area in search of the suspects. 

    Efforts are in top gear to arrest everyone involved in the crime,” Odutola said. She added that the survivors have been taken to the school clinic for treatment.
