The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost socio-cultural organization representing the Igbo people, Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has issued a call to every Igbo individuals, telling them that there’s no need for them to fight the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The Eze Ndigbo made this call during an interview in a popular newspaper, stressing that Igbos must respect other people’s beliefs.
According to him, Tinubu is a friend of the Igbos, as he added that there are so many Igbo people among the ruling party, All Progressives Congress.
“We have no reason to say we are not friends with Tinubu’s presidency. He is a friend to many Igbo and there are so many Igbo in APC, so, it won’t be right for them to say the Igbo didn’t support them,” he said.
He therefore emphasized the need of studying and acquiring in-depth knowledge about Nigeria as a whole, given its diverse religious and cultural makeup and recognizing that various regions in the country possesses distinct cultural preferences and aversions.
Dr. Iwuanyanwu further stated how some of Nigeria’s past leaders, like, Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikewe were able to succeed by having respect for one another.
He said, “People like Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikewe and others did it by having respect for one another and they were able to succeed”
However, he explained that the Igbo community found itself at odds with former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the reasons behind their divergence and the subsequent impact it had on their community.
He said that the reasons was because the tribe didn’t vote for the former administration
“We didn’t support him that time and he turned against us saying we didn’t vote for him,” he said.
He however said the group supported Tinubu, as he stressed that he(Tinubu) doesn’t have any excuse to maltreat them.
