The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that it will participate in the November 2 local government chairmanship and councillorship elections in Abia State.

The chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Abia, Allwell Asiforo Okere, who made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party Secretariat in Umuahia on Friday, emphasised that his party is still a strong force in Abia politics, pointing out that the Umbrella Party remains a beautiful bride to the Abia populace.

Okere encouraged members of the party who are interested in contesting for the positions of local government chairmen and councilors, to indicate interest by visiting the party’s secretariat to obtain nominations and expression of interest forms.

A source at the party’s secretariat disclosed that the form for chairmanship will be sold at N200,000 while those contesting for councillorship will pay N25,000.

According to the PDP source, the party is offering female aspirants a 50 per cent discount on nominations and expression of interest fees.

DAILY POST recalls that the chairman of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, Professor George Chioma, while unveiling the timetable for the election last week, assured the Abia voting public that the November 2 polls would be free, fair, and transparent.

The ABSIEC chairman urged Abia people to expect a credible exercise that would not be manipulated in favour of any candidate or political party.
