We’ll Sustain, Boost Industrial Edge, Ogun Governor Vows

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Ogun’s position as Nigeria’s leading industrial hub, pledging to build on the strides already made in industrial growth under his tenure.

The governor, represented by Mr. Adebola Sofela, the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, gave this assurance during the 39th Annual General Meeting of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun State Branch, held in Abeokuta.

He emphasized that the state government remains dedicated to creating a favorable business climate to attract new investors and bolster the operations of existing ones.

“Our government is doing everything to ensure we retain our position as the industrial capital of Nigeria. Ogun stands tall as a beacon of industrial vibrancy in Nigeria,” Governor Abiodun stated, addressing MAN stakeholders.

“We recognize the challenges businesses face due to the current economic situation, and we are determined to address these issues effectively.”

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, Abiodun noted that critical road projects such as the Abeokuta-Ota Expressway and the Atan/Agbara-Lusada Roads would soon be completed.

He added that improved road networks across the state would further drive economic growth by easing transport for manufacturers and other businesses.

The governor also announced the establishment of a tax harmonization committee aimed at curbing multiple taxation, a step he said was critical in fostering a business-friendly environment.

He disclosed that the state’s House of Assembly recently passed the Power Sector Reform Bill, which, once implemented, is expected to resolve energy issues faced by the local manufacturing sector.

Abiodun highlighted the state’s commitment to safety and security, noting that cooperation with security agencies has enhanced peace and stability within Ogun, further supporting business growth.

“We will continue to collaborate with MAN and other stakeholders to promote our common goals,” he affirmed.

In response, MAN President Otunba Francis Meshioye commended Governor Abiodun’s administration for maintaining a robust relationship with the association, expressing optimism that such collaboration will enhance public-private partnerships to drive Ogun’s economic development.

Meshioye also urged the state government to enforce President Bola Tinubu’s executive order, which mandates patronage of locally produced goods.

The Chairman of MAN’s Ogun State Branch, Mr. George Onafowokan, expressed concerns over the challenges faced by manufacturers, particularly the devaluation of the naira and rising inflation.

He emphasized that manufacturers play a vital role in employment and state development and urged the government to intensify efforts in supporting local production to sustain job creation.

“The government has been doing well, but they need to do more to enable manufacturers to guarantee job creation and the economic growth of Ogun State,” Onafowokan stated.
