Wema Bank has unveiled plans to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, reinforcing its commitment to gender equality and financial inclusion.

The bank will host a major event on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Lagos, with the theme “Harnessing Innovation & Technology to Accelerate Financial Inclusion for Women.”

The event will bring together female leaders from different industries to discuss how technology can drive financial empowerment for women.

As part of the celebration, Wema Bank will showcase its Big Sister Project, a mentorship program under the Wema Women Network (WWN).

The HeForShe Awards will also recognize male employees who have contributed to women’s empowerment in the workplace.

Throughout March, the bank has planned various initiatives, including the Wema Bank 5 for 5 Promo Season 4, where 131 women will share N11 million in cash rewards, and an outreach program for young female students.

Speaking on the bank’s commitment to women’s empowerment, Wema Bank MD/CEO, Moruf Oseni, emphasized the need for innovation in addressing gender inequality.

“We recognize the gender gap and have continued to develop new ways to accelerate action for women’s empowerment.

“This is why we launched our women-focused proposition, SARA by Wema, and why we remain intentional about creating opportunities for women,” he said.

Oseni highlighted that between 2019 and 2023, Wema Bank provided over N50 billion in financing for women-led businesses, disbursed $2.4 million in partnership with Islamic Development Finance under the BRAVE Women Project, and supported over 2 million women through skills development and business initiatives.
