In a landmark initiative aimed at bolstering the prospects of Nigerian youth and spurring economic progress, Wema Bank, a trailblazing force in Nigeria’s banking sector and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, has teamed up with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to introduce the NYSC-ALAT Accelerator Programme.
This strategic collaboration seeks to facilitate a seamless and profitable entry into the job market for young Nigerians through the NYSC scheme.
The NYSC-ALAT Accelerator Programme is designed to equip NYSC participants with resources for skill acquisition, job placement, and career development, with the overarching goal of reducing unemployment and underemployment rates.
The official unveiling took place at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria.
This groundbreaking initiative will empower NYSC members by providing grants and funding to help them establish sustainable income streams.
Additionally, participants will receive cutting-edge digital training in areas such as design thinking, artificial intelligence, programming languages, and content creation, in collaboration with Microsoft.
The programme also includes mentorship opportunities and a business plan competition to encourage entrepreneurship and job creation, with substantial rewards for the most promising ideas. Moreover, loans will be extended to all participants.
Mr. Tunde Mabawonku, Wema Bank’s Executive Director of Retail and Digital, emphasized the significance of this pioneering partnership.

Representing the Director-General of NYSC, Mr. Ayodele Folorunsho Omotade expressed gratitude to Wema Bank for their support and commitment to driving the programme.
“This MoU signifies our combined efforts towards wealth creation and the economic advancement of Nigerian youth.
With Wema Bank’s support, we look forward to opening up career opportunities for our members and contributing to the development of a digitally skilled workforce,” he added.
