Wema Bank has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to launch the MOWA x SARA Accelerator Programme, an initiative aimed at empowering 500,000 women across Nigeria with essential vocational and business management skills.
The programme, which was unveiled during a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony in Abuja, is designed to promote gender inclusion and economic empowerment, targeting women in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Over the next 24 months, the initiative will equip women with the tools needed to thrive personally and professionally through a combination of soft skills, business management training, and vocational education.
The MOWA x SARA Accelerator Programme is spearheaded by Wema Bank’s SARA by Wema, a women-focused proposition aimed at fostering gender equality by providing women with tailored resources, opportunities, and solutions.

emphasized the significance of this initiative in addressing the unique challenges faced by Nigerian women in an evolving economy.
“Nigeria’s ever-evolving macroeconomic landscape calls for an acutely intentional approach to providing tailored solutions and opportunities to empower our people, especially the women,” Mabawonku stated.
“At Wema Bank, we understand this need as captured in our mission of empowering lives through innovation, and we are very intentional about tailoring our empowerment efforts to the needs of our diverse customer demographics.”
The programme’s first pilot phase will begin in Anambra, with further rollouts in Ekiti and Kano.
The five-day in-person training will be organized into eight cohorts, with each cohort undergoing two days of soft skills and business management training, followed by two days of vocational instruction.
