The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ogun State has expressed readiness for the Saturday governorship and state assembly elections.

The commission said it has learned from the challenges experienced during Presidential elections and is ready to do better.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Niyi Ijalaye disclose this to newsmen on Wednesday at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Abeokuta, while distributing sensitive materials for the coming governorship election.

Ijalaye declared that the commission is on top of its game ahead of the election.

He stated that the challenges witnessed at the February 25 Presidential polls were merely logistical challenges and that such challenges will not affect the coming election.

His words, “INEC is more than ever prepared, we are on top of our game. As you are aware, there were challenges during the last election and the challenges associated with matters of this nature were merely logistical issues.

“I can assure you that such challenges will not affect the coming elections. We have gone past that and we assure you that things will progress much better than the past.”

The REC urged citizens to exercise their franchise peacefully and shun violence.

“We want to use this opportunity to implore every good citizen to conduct themselves peacefully during the elections. We expect that citizens will come out to vote for the candidate of their choice.

“We appeal that on no account should the blood of any person in this state be spilled for the election. We want a very peaceful election devoid of violece, quarells or wounding each other. Let us come out to vote for candidates of your choice peaceful.” Ijalaye added.
