Why Tinubu Intervened In  Rivers, Ondo  Political Crises-Presidency

The presidency says president Bola Tinubu, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, had to  actively intervene in the  escalating political crises in Ondo and Rivers State.

Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale stated this while defending the President’s interventions as a necessary step to prevent potential national turmoil.

At a reconciliation meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by key figures including Ondo State Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, President Tinubu’s proactive approach was emphasized.

Ngelale  affirmed that President Tinubu is committed to intervening in state crises that could threaten national stability.

Ngelale addressed criticisms, stating, “That has nothing to do with political development, destabilization of a particular region or state… If the President sees that, he is not going to sit by as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and fold his hands and keep quiet. I think that is what he has done.”

Ngelale emphasized the expectation of Nigerians for responsible leadership from Tinubu’s government. “If you are the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and your primary objective is to make sure that the Nigerian people are safe… then you know that if a political crisis is devolving into something that is generating manmade insecurity, then the president needs to step in,” he asserted.

Beyond state interventions, Ngelale discussed broader national issues, acknowledging the challenges inherited by the current administration, including the impacts of fuel subsidy removal and the rising cost of living.

He emphasized the complex nature of these issues, stating, “There is going to be pain before pleasure, there is going to be sacrifice before there is an ultimate outcome that all of us cannot only be proud of but can thrive in.”

President Tinubu, according to Ngelale, is actively working to address these challenges and create a stable environment for the Nigerian people.
