Lubabatu Yusuf Samaila, a 20-year-old housewife from Bauchi, expressed anguish over the detention of her husband after filing a rape complaint against Deputy Immigration Superintendent Sani Muazu, who also happened to be her husband’s benefactor.
The harrowing incident occurred on December 9, 2023, when Muazu allegedly assaulted Lubabatu in her home, callously ignoring her pleas to stop the act, even in the presence of her traumatised children.
Lubabatu recounted, “Muazu came to my house, hugged me, and touched my breasts. Despite my resistance, he proceeded to assault me, all while my small children watched in horror.”
She continued to narrate the distressing experience, describing how Muazu kicked her, slapped her, and forcibly engaged in intercourse while her children cried and pleaded for him to stop.
In a shocking turn of events, the lack of police investigation into Lubabatu’s rape complaint left her frustrated. Instead, her husband was arrested and detained, accused of defaming the suspect.
Lubabatu, seeking justice, submitted a petition to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, decrying the alleged negligence by Bauchi CP in handling the case.
Barrister Muhammed Alkassim, representing Lubabatu, criticized the police for deviating from their duty and urged for immediate action.
Alkassim revealed that their petition, submitted on December 22, 2023, remains unaddressed, emphasizing the urgency of re-arresting the suspect on behalf of the victim.
The Bauchi Police Command, however, countered the accusations. Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent Ahmed Mohammed Wakil stated that the CP had directed an investigation into the case, assuring the public of a transparent outcome.
Regarding the arrest of Lubabatu’s husband, Wakil clarified that he faced charges of criminal defamation and aiding and abetting offenses based on a petition by Nazir Umar and Co chambers, representing Sani Saleh Muazu.
The police assured that the investigation is ongoing, pledging to reveal the outcome soon.
