Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has blamed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the party’s failure to win the presidential election.
Wike believes that the party’s misfortune was a result of ignoring warnings from the G5 governors, who called for equity, justice, and fairness before the poll.
Speaking at Okomoko Community Field during the inauguration of the Chokocho-Igbodo Road in Etche Local Government Area, Wike insisted that the fate that befell the PDP was avoidable if its leadership had heeded appeals and demands for equity.
According to him, the presidency should have returned to the South as the North was completing its eight years at the presidency, as stated in the constitution.
He criticized the party for taking the chairmanship and presidential candidate slot of the party to the North, ignoring appeals for equity.
Wike said, “Give us back the chairmanship, you said no, that you must have it all because you have won. I said ‘be careful’ then, and nobody wants to remember all those things when we were shouting.”
Wike also emphasized the importance of the rotation of public offices as stated in Section 7 (3) (c) of the constitution, arguing that it is crucial for equity, fairness, and justice.
He also reiterated his support for a southern presidential candidate and insisted that he remained an advocate of power rotation based on the principles of equity, fairness, and justice.
