The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming that he is being persuaded by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2027 presidential election, describing them as false and mischievous.
Wike, in a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, said he remains fully committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration’s success, declaring that his loyalty would last “till 2031.”
“As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” Olayinka stated.
“The report circulated by an online platform notorious for falsehood and blackmail is just another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”
The former Rivers State governor, known for his blunt political style, said he would never operate in secrecy and that his position on national issues has always been transparent.
“Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says, and says what he does. He has made it clear where he stands as long as the 2027 presidential election is concerned — he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.
According to Olayinka, the alleged meeting where PDP leaders purportedly resolved to draft Wike into the 2027 presidential race never took place.
He clarified that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, involved PDP stakeholders from Southern Nigeria and focused solely on internal zoning matters within the party.
The statement added that the names listed in the online report were simply lifted from a genuine press statement issued by PDP southern stakeholders after their consultative meeting in Lagos
