Tragedy struck the community of Konshisha Local Government Area in Benue State as two persons were buried alive by angry youths over allegations of witchcraft.
The victims, Ihwakaa and his alleged collaborator, were accused of bewitching people with thunderstorms in the area whenever it rained.
According to reports, Ihwakaa was believed to be responsible for a thunder strike that affected his son, wife, and a two-week-old child.
The mob reportedly attacked him and his accomplice before burying them alive in a shallow grave.
An elder in the community, Baba Agan, confirmed that the matter was reported to the police in Konshisha Local Government, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilized his men to the scene.
However, when the police team arrived, the victims had already died in the grave and their bodies were exhumed.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Benue Command, SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident, adding that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the act.
She warned the public against taking the law into their hands, saying that investigation is ongoing.
The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters, with many calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
Witchcraft accusations and mob justice are not uncommon in some parts of Nigeria, and there have been calls for more concerted efforts to tackle the menace.
