The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has voiced his support for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, as a potential successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos State.
Olawande made the remarks during an interview with journalist Seun Okinbaloye, describing Seyi as a capable and well-trained leader who has positively impacted many young Nigerians.
His comments come amid ongoing speculation about Seyi’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“He is not too young to become a governor; that’s the truth,” Olawande said.
“Seyi is a well-trained young man who has built and supported massive numbers of young people, even when his father was not the president.”
Discussions about Seyi Tinubu’s suitability for Lagos State’s governorship began in late 2024 when Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST), a socio-political organization, endorsed him for the position.
However, Olawande emphasized that the president’s son has not personally initiated or endorsed these campaigns.
“Seyi is not the one engineering the campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State,” Olawande clarified.
“When you’re popular or involved in certain activities, people will often project aspirations onto you.”
Despite the growing endorsements, Seyi Tinubu has neither confirmed nor denied any political ambitions, maintaining a neutral stance amid the speculations.
The suggestion of a Tinubu family continuation in Lagos politics has sparked varied reactions from political commentators and citizens alike.
