Youths Demand Relocation Of Kano Appeal Court Judges To Abuja

Nigerian youths representing various political affiliations have called upon the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and the National Judicial Council (NJC) to transfer the Kano Division of the Court of Appeal, currently handling the governorship election case, to the capital city of Abuja.

This plea comes in response to alleged intimidation directed at members of the Kano state governorship election petitions tribunal.

Under the banner of “Stand Up Nigeria,” these young activists have strongly denounced acts of intimidation, especially the recent statements made by certain political groups warning of a situation in Kano similar to what has unfolded in Zamfara.

These warnings are rooted in allegations of federal interference aiming to sway the tribunal’s decision in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a press conference held in Abuja, Patriot Sunday Attah, the national coordinator of the group, emphasized the urgency for the NJC to proactively relocate such tribunal panels to Abuja.

He stressed that Kano should not descend into the turmoil witnessed in Zamfara or Borno State, asserting, “Kano state will not become like Zamfara, neither will it become another Borno. There will be no war in Kano.”

Attah also raised concerns about the safety of justices presiding over election cases nationwide, highlighting that they are not immune to threats.

He called upon the Nigerian government to fulfill its responsibility of protecting them.

He emphasized, “If there is a threat to their lives in any state of the Federation, our call to the NJC is to quickly relocate them to a conducive environment where they will dispense justice without fear or favour because it is he who is alive that can deliver judgment. Abuja is a safe haven. Nobody can come and misbehave in Abuja.

We are telling the NJC that any state that some elements have proven to be toxic, threatening the judges, then the NJC should relocate the judges to Abuja.”
