Born and raised in the ever- hustling and bustling- Lagos, Nigeria, Zainab innately discovered early that rhythm flowed naturally through her veins. While other children dreamed of conventional careers, Zainab’s world revolved around drums, choreography, and the electrifying power of performance.
While others took to Ballet, salsa and conventional dances, Zainab was naturally drawn to Yoruba traditional dances such as Bata, eyo, Apala, waka, Fuji among others.
Today, she stands out as a dedicated professional dancer specialising in African cultural dance, proudly promoting the richness of the continent’s heritage on every stage she graces.
“I don’t just dance—I tell stories,” she often says. And indeed, every performance from Zainab is a journey through tradition, history and emotion. From the elegant fluidity of Bata and eyo, to the energetic pulse of Fuji, Afrofusion and contemporary African rhythms, her versatility is exceptional. She blends cultural authenticity with creative innovation, making ancient movements feel fresh, modern and globally appealing.
What sets Zainab apart is her unshakable commitment. Despite the stigma against dancers in the contemporary Nigerian society, Zainab has been undaunted.
She believes African traditional dance must not go into extinction. For her, it is either dance or nothing. She trains relentlessly, studies the origins of each style, and ensures her expressions remain rooted in African identity.
This passion has earned her respect within the arts community and opportunities to perform at festivals, cultural events, and stage productions. She loves to travel to other countries and explore their dances.
Beyond performing, Zainab is also a cultural ambassador. She teaches younger dancers, collaborates with creatives, and uses her platform to preserve African traditions in a world where Western influence often dominates the dance scene.
