In a heartwarming initiative, the Zakat and Zadaqat Foundation of Nigeria’s Back to School Project recently provided vital educational support to over 200 pupils in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The event, which unfolded on Wednesday,, at the Nawarudeen Society Blue Roof Hall in Abeokuta, garnered significant attention from distinguished attendees, including  Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, and Mrs. Temilade Tijani, representing the General Manager of Ogun State Broadcast Corporation (OGBC).

Prof. Arigbabu expressed the Ogun government’s unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives like this.

He emphasized that such projects are pivotal in reducing illiteracy levels and encouraging school attendance.

He further stressed the importance of community involvement in bolstering the education system, highlighting that government support alone cannot suffice.

He commended the Zakat and Zadaqat Foundation for their contribution to education and urged individuals to support similar initiatives either directly or indirectly within their communities.

Arigbabu revealed that the government had abolished school levies, expanded infrastructure, and ensured prompt teacher salaries to enhance access to education. Additionally, scholarships and bursaries at various levels were being implemented to facilitate learning.

Furthermore, he announced the government’s intention to introduce scholarships, particularly for outstanding students in tertiary institutions, and expand work-study programs to support self-sustenance.

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Kewulere, the coordinator of the Zakat and Zadaqat Foundation, spoke about the foundation’s significant impact.

He emphasized that this year’s program focused on educational support, including the distribution of bags and exercise books to over 200 selected pupils from primary and secondary schools within the Egba axis of Ogun State.

Kewulere, emphasized the collective responsibility of society in nurturing future leaders through education and called for continued collaboration and corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds to further enhance educational opportunities.

Kewulere said that this year’s programme is basically based on educational support in which the donation of bags was also introduced, adding that not less than 200 pupils selected across various primary and secondary schools within Egba axis only in Ogun State will be given either exercise books or combination of school bags and exercise books cum other writing materials when other parts of the state are being taken care of.

He moves further, “saying that everyone should remember that education is a collective effort and it takes a community to nurture the minds of our future leaders.

“It’s our hope that, through continued collaboration and support , we can provide even greater opportunity for our students to excel.

“On this note, I seek the continued collaboration of our sponsors to divert a chunk of their corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) fund towards this great venture”.
