The Zamfara State government has firmly rejected the purported agreement between certain representatives of the federal government and local terrorists, commonly referred to as bandits.
The government described the move as an illegal and unsanctioned peace accord.
The state government’s stance was made in a statement issued by Mannir Mu’azu Haidara Kaura, the state Commissioner of Information and Culture.
He said the government expressed deep concern over the unauthorized negotiations, emphasizing that such actions not only defy the wishes of the state administration but also disregard the sentiments of Zamfara’s populace.
Zamfara, situated in the Northwest region of Nigeria, has been grappling with incessant attacks perpetrated by terrorist elements, causing widespread insecurity and fear among its residents.
He said despite the daunting challenges, the state government has reiterated its steadfast commitment to combating banditry and restoring peace and security to the region.
“The Zamfara state government is not party to it and is not supporting the move,” declared the statement, echoing the resolute stance of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration against engaging in any dialogue or reconciliation efforts with the criminal syndicates terrorizing the state.
The government emphasized that the purported peace initiative is politically motivated and aimed at undermining its ongoing efforts to address security concerns.
The government called upon the general public and security agencies to remain vigilant and reject any attempts by unauthorized individuals to engage in negotiations with bandits within the state’s territory.
It emphasized that the primary responsibility for ensuring the safety and well-being of Zamfara’s citizens rests with the state government, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
While condemning recent banditry attacks in Sakaji and Bilbis villages within Kaura Namoda and Tsafe local government areas, the government reaffirmed its commitment to providing security and protection to all residents.
It expressed condolences to the victims and vowed to prevent such incidents from recurring, underscoring its determination to make banditry a thing of the past in Zamfara.
