The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has questioned the management of more than ₦650 billion reportedly received by the state from the Federation Account Allocation Committee over the past three years, saying the funds have not translated into infrastructure and development commensurate with the resources available to the government.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, made the allegation during an Arise TV Town Hall Meeting in Osun, where he challenged the financial record of the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and disputed claims that the current government inherited an almost empty treasury from the immediate past administration.
The APC candidate said the scale of federal allocations received by the Adeleke administration raised questions about the level of development visible across the state.
“How does ₦650 billion match what we see in Osun today?” Oyebamiji asked, arguing that the resources available to the government should be reflected in roads, public infrastructure, social services and economic opportunities for residents.
He claimed that the state received only about ₦450 billion over the combined 12-year period of the APC administrations of former governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola, compared with the approximately ₦650 billion he said the Adeleke administration had received in about three and a half years.
Oyebamiji also disputed the narrative that the Oyetola administration handed over an empty treasury to Adeleke.
According to him, Oyetola left about ₦15 billion in the state coffers when he handed over power, contrary to claims that the incoming administration inherited a financially distressed state with little or no cash.
The APC candidate said the increased federal revenue available to states in recent years was partly driven by economic reforms of the President Bola Tinubu administration, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy.
He argued that the additional revenue should have provided state governments with greater capacity to invest in critical infrastructure, strengthen social services, expand the local economy and improve living conditions.
Oyebamiji said the issue was not merely how much money Osun had received, but how effectively the resources had been converted into tangible benefits for residents.
He promised that, if elected governor, his administration would institute what he described as transparent and prudent management of public resources, with emphasis on accountability, economic expansion and inclusive development.
The APC candidate’s claims, however, are political assertions made during an election campaign and require verification against official FAAC records, Osun State budget implementation reports, audited financial statements and other publicly available expenditure records.
The figures also come amid heightened political contestation ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, with parties expected to intensify scrutiny of the financial and development records of successive administrations.
