The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, revealed that the Nigerian Army, under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, achieved significant success in its operations across 20 states.
The Director of Army Public Relations,stated this in a press conference said a total of 13 suspected criminals were eliminated, and 88 individuals were apprehended in the course of various raids and patrols conducted by the troops.
Among the arrested were 50 suspects, including foreigners, involved in alleged international job racketeering.
The operations, named ‘Exercise Still Waters,’ ‘Enduring Peace,’ and ‘Golden Dawn,’ were launched on October 6 to enhance security before, during, and after the upcoming yuletide season.
Highlighting specific instances of successful operations, Onyema disclosed that on November 2, 2023, troops, in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service, raided a suspected criminal hideout in Ifako Ijaye, South West region.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 50 suspects, including foreigners engaged in international job racketeering.
Additionally, arrests were made in connection to a murder case, as two suspects were apprehended at a hotel in Ogba, Ikeja LGA, related to the killing of Mallam Idris Ardo, the Ardo of Panya Village in Plateau State.
Preliminary investigations suggested that one of the arrested suspects masterminded the murder.
In Kuje Area Council, troops conducted successful raids on October 29 and 30, 2023, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects.
The operations led to the recovery of stolen cable wires, illicit drugs, and substances suspected to be cannabis.
Brig. Gen. Onyema assured citizens of their safety during the festive period, emphasizing that the Army would maintain an offensive posture to ensure security and curb criminal activities.
