In a heartwarming gesture, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has announced full scholarships for the 137 schoolchildren from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School who were recently rescued from captivity.
Addressing the children at the Government House, Kaduna, Governor Sani pledged free education for the rescued children, emphasizing his commitment to their well-being.
He also revealed plans to renovate both the school and the Kuriga community under the auspices of the Uba Sani Foundation.
Governor Sani expressed gratitude to the children for their patience and resilience during their traumatic ordeal.
He highlighted the psychological support provided to them, including counseling and therapy sessions conducted by psychologists and medical professionals.
Tragically, one of the abducted teachers, Mallam Abubakar, succumbed to health complications while in captivity.
In response, Governor Sani vowed to sponsor the education of the deceased teacher’s children and provide financial support of N10 million to his family.
“I am happy that all the children here are extremely happy and in high spirits,” Governor Sani remarked, praising the children’s resilience.
“All the 137, like I promised them, will be my students by the grace of God,” he affirmed, directing the Uba Sani Foundation to oversee their education and welfare.
Additionally, Governor Sani announced plans for extensive renovations in the Kuriga community and the schools, underscoring his commitment to restoring normalcy and peace to the region.
While expressing condolences for the loss of Mallam Abubakar, Governor Sani assured that the Kaduna State Government would support his family and honor his memory.
The Federal Government confirmed that no ransom was paid for the release of the abducted pupils, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
The children were abducted on March 7, 2024, by armed assailants and were rescued on Sunday, March 24, through a joint operation involving the military and local authorities from neighboring Zamfara State.
