The African Democratic Congress has unveiled its governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the 2027 general elections, with the party fielding candidates in 28 states across the country.
The announcement signals the party’s preparations to challenge the dominance of the major political parties in the forthcoming elections and present itself as an alternative platform for voters seeking a different political direction.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed the names of the candidates in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Friday.
According to Abdullahi, the candidates would contest under the ADC platform and represent the party’s commitment to what it described as credible leadership and a new approach to governance.
The statement read in part, “The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presents our Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates across 28 states for the 2027 elections.
“These men and women will carry the ADC banner and our commitment to offer Nigerians credible leadership and a real alternative.”
The party said it was confident that the candidates would effectively communicate and advance its vision of good governance, accountability and people-centred leadership in their respective states.
The development comes as political activities and preparations for the 2027 elections continue to intensify across the country, with political parties positioning candidates and strengthening their structures ahead of the polls.
The ADC has increasingly projected itself as a platform for Nigerians seeking an alternative to the established political parties, particularly amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party’s unveiling of candidates across 28 states is expected to further intensify competition at the state level as the electoral contest gradually takes shape.
The ADC, however, did not field governorship candidates in all the states participating in the 2027 elections, according to the list released by the party.
