The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Abeokuta South State Constituency II in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Adeoye Adewale Adeniran, has said the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Oladipupo Adebutu, would make stable electricity supply a major priority to stimulate economic growth, attract investment and improve the living standard of residents if elected.
Adeoye, popularly known as A3, stated this while addressing party members and supporters in Abeokuta, where he urged them to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than political attacks ahead of the elections.
He said sustainable economic development could not be achieved without reliable electricity, describing inadequate power supply as one of the biggest obstacles to Ogun State’s growth.
“Our campaign must remain focused on issues that matter to the people. We must not descend into abusive politics or exchange insults with the ruling All Progressives Congress. Elections should be about ideas, competence and practical solutions,” he said.
Adeoye said improving electricity supply would form a key pillar of an Adebutu administration, noting that access to stable power would reduce production costs, encourage industrial expansion and create employment opportunities.
He also defended Adebutu’s distribution of transformers across communities in Ogun State, describing the initiative as part of a broader vision to strengthen electricity infrastructure.
“It is not just about donating transformers; it is about strengthening electricity distribution infrastructure and ensuring more communities enjoy reliable power supply,” he said.
According to him, recent reforms in Nigeria’s electricity sector have given states greater opportunities to participate in electricity generation, distribution and regulation through partnerships with private investors and independent power projects.
He said Ogun, being one of Nigeria’s leading industrial states, is strategically positioned to benefit from such opportunities.
“The PDP government had done it before with the mini-power plant at Oke-Mosan, and we saw the impact. I have no doubt that an Adebutu administration will explore every lawful opportunity to improve electricity supply for our people,” Adeoye added.
He argued that improved electricity would ease the burden on small businesses currently spending heavily on petrol and diesel to power generators.
He listed welders, tailors, hairdressers, ICT operators, printers and frozen food traders among businesses that would benefit from lower energy costs and improved productivity.
Adeoye further said reliable electricity would strengthen healthcare delivery by powering medical equipment, support digital learning in schools and enhance agro-processing activities across the state.
He maintained that the PDP was offering practical solutions to Ogun’s developmental challenges, expressing confidence that Adebutu possessed the vision and capacity to transform the state’s economy through improved infrastructure.
He urged residents to support leaders with “workable ideas” capable of promoting industrial growth, expanding business opportunities and improving the welfare of the people.
