…Deputy Chief Whip asks supporters to bury primary grievances, begin grassroots mobilisation

The Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka Ayokunle, has thrown his weight behind the candidacy of Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, urging members of the All Progressives Congress to close ranks and work for the party’s victory.
Isiaka gave the assurance on Thursday at a meeting with his supporters and other APC stakeholders in Ifo, organised under the auspices of the EasyLife Movement, where he called for reconciliation following the party’s primary elections.
The meeting brought together APC leaders and stakeholders from Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government Areas, including former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat; Ifo APC Chairman, Barr. Olumide Oduwole; and Ewekoro APC Chairman, Chief Ayinde Sogbamu.
Also present were the two local government chairmen, Idris Kushimo and Sikiru Adesina; House of Assembly candidates for Ifo I and Ewekoro, Fola Salami and Abiodun Adeleye; Governor’s Liaison Officers; local government and ward executive committee members; and other party leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Isiaka said the conclusion of the APC primary elections should mark the beginning of reconciliation rather than further division among party members.
He said the primaries had produced candidates for the various elective positions and urged those who contested or supported different tendencies to put their differences behind them.
According to him, there should be “no grudges, bitterness or actions capable of undermining the unity of the party.”
Isiaka specifically reaffirmed his support for Adeleye as the APC candidate for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency and urged his supporters to work with other members of the party to secure her election and the victory of other APC candidates in 2027.
He expressed confidence that the party would improve on its previous electoral performances in the constituency, urging members to return to their respective wards and commence sustained grassroots mobilisation and voter canvassing.
Earlier, Chief Derin Adebiyi said the primary election had ended and should no longer be allowed to create acrimony among party members.
Adebiyi said the meeting, convened at Isiaka’s instance, was aimed at sustaining unity among his supporters and strengthening cohesion within the wider APC family.
He urged party members across Ifo and Ewekoro to reconcile their differences and mobilise voters for Adeleye and other APC candidates.
Party leaders, including Hamzat, Oduwole and Sogbamu, commended Isiaka for what they described as his resilience and commitment to the APC.
They described the gathering as a demonstration of political maturity and loyalty to the party, stressing that the outcome of the primary should not become a permanent dividing line among members.
They called on party faithful to move into the wards and commence aggressive grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding, Adeleye thanked Isiaka for convening the meeting, describing it as an important demonstration of party supremacy and commitment to the progressive ideals of the APC.
The former commissioner said the gathering had reinforced the need for members to place the interest of the party above individual ambitions and past disagreements.
She called on party leaders, former aspirants, women, youths, ward executives and grassroots mobilisers to embrace genuine reconciliation and make the 2027 election a collective project.
Adeleye said she was ready to work with all members of the party, irrespective of the positions they took during the primary election.
She described every party member, political structure and supporter as an asset needed to secure victory for the APC.
“In the spirit of this meeting, I therefore urge all members of the party to return to their various wards with renewed commitment and unity, translating the spirit of reconciliation into massive votes for APC and a decisive victory in Ifo/Ewekoro and across our dear State,” she stated.
