The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has vowed to hold Governor Seyi Makinde accountable for alleged expenditure of state resources on his 2027 presidential ambition.
The party, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, on Sunday, described Makinde’s presidential bid on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement as a political “charade,” insisting that he lacked the experience, strategy and qualities required to become Nigeria’s President.
The APC alleged that the governor was using public resources to pursue an ambition that, according to the party, was unlikely to succeed.
It warned that Makinde would be required to account for any public funds allegedly spent on his presidential campaign after leaving office.
“Makinde knows, in his mind, that contesting for the Nigerian presidency is not a child’s play,” the party said.
The APC further alleged that despite lacking the “personal quality, experience and strategy” required for the presidency, Makinde was presenting himself as the presidential candidate of the APM.
The party said it was monitoring the governor’s political activities and would demand accountability for any alleged misuse of public resources.
“Makinde is being monitored as he embarks on a political journey that has failed before its commencement, while he would be made to cough out all the public funds he wasted on it,” the statement added.
The governor’s reported emergence as the APM presidential candidate has intensified political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties and political groups positioning themselves for the contest.
The Oyo APC, however, maintained that Makinde’s presidential aspiration would not distract it from scrutinising his administration and demanding accountability over the management of state resources.
The party did not provide details of the specific funds or expenditures it alleged had been committed to the governor’s presidential ambition.
Makinde has yet to respond to the latest allegations by the APC.
