The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Abeokuta South State Constituency II in the 2027 Ogun State House of Assembly election, Adeoye Adewale Adeniran, popularly known as A3, has urged Ogun residents to take seriously the allegations levelled against the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo.
Adeoye said the comments made by Obasanjo, the PDP candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District, should not be dismissed as routine political exchanges but viewed in the context of her public service record and credibility.
Speaking during a meeting with PDP members in Ward 14, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, Adeoye described Obasanjo as a respected public figure whose reputation for integrity and frankness lends weight to her remarks.
He was reacting to Obasanjo’s recent allegation that Adeola “lacks integrity” and “breaks trust”, insisting that the claims deserved careful consideration by voters ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
According to him, the allegations also come against the backdrop of controversies that trailed the 2026 Federal Budget, which attracted criticism from civil society organisations, policy analysts and opposition parties over alleged budget padding, duplication of projects and the inclusion of constituency projects outside the mandates of relevant agencies.
Adeoye noted that as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Adeola occupied a strategic position during the preparation and passage of the budget.
He said, “Whether every allegation is ultimately proven or not, the Appropriations Committee bears enormous responsibility for ensuring transparency, fiscal discipline and accountability in the budgeting process. Nigerians deserve answers whenever questions are raised about the integrity of the nation’s budget.”
The PDP candidate maintained that concerns surrounding the budget process, alongside Obasanjo’s comments on trust and integrity, were issues Ogun voters should carefully examine before electing their next governor.
He said leadership should be determined by character, competence and accountability rather than popularity or financial influence.
“The people of Ogun must pay close attention when an experienced public servant like Senator Iyabo Obasanjo raises concerns about character and integrity. These are not issues that should be dismissed as mere campaign exchanges. Leadership begins with character and integrity remains the foundation upon which public trust is built,” he said.
Adeoye described Obasanjo as a distinguished indigene of Ogun State who had served as Commissioner for Health and later represented Ogun Central in the Senate, adding that her years of public service gave credibility to her opinion.
He also declared support for the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Oladipupo Adebutu, describing him as a compassionate leader with a verifiable record of humanitarian interventions and community development initiatives.
Speaking on his legislative agenda, Adeoye promised to sponsor laws and provide oversight aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, women’s economic development and security in Abeokuta South State Constituency II.
He also pledged to promote transparency in local government administration, support alternative energy initiatives, improve road networks, protect small businesses and ensure prudent management of public resources.
“My commitment is to represent the people with honesty, accessibility and courage. The House of Assembly must be a place where laws are made to improve the lives of ordinary citizens, not to serve the interests of a privileged few,” he said.
Adeoye urged residents of Abeokuta South and Ogun State to scrutinise the integrity and credibility of all candidates before casting their votes in the 2027 general elections.
He added, “Elections offer citizens the opportunity to choose leaders whose conduct reflects honesty, transparency and accountability. When politicians induce voters with money, the consequences are ultimately borne by everyone. Ogun State deserves leadership founded on trust, competence and genuine service to the people.”
