Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the ruling party’s viability and commitment to electoral success as key reasons for his defection.
Jandor, who made the announcement on Monday at a media briefing held at Liberty Place, Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos, declared that his decision was in the best interest of Lagosians, emphasizing that the APC remains the only party capable of winning elections both at the state and national levels.
His return comes after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, Abuja, last week, where undisclosed political matters were discussed.
The former PDP candidate also consulted with prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former President Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, and 2023 Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, before making his decision.
Jandor had resigned from the PDP on March 3, 2025, citing issues of internal betrayal, indiscipline, and anti-party activities within the Lagos chapter of the party.
He accused PDP leaders of sabotaging his governorship bid and misleading supporters with false claims of an alliance that ultimately worked against his candidacy.
“Since resigning from PDP, we have engaged in wide consultations with our political associates, followers, and supporters across the state,” Jandor said.
He disclosed that he explored options with leaders of the SDP, APC, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and other political platforms before making his final decision.
The former governorship candidate also took a swipe at PDP leaders, particularly Chief Olabode George, accusing him of failing to deliver electoral victories for the party in Lagos.
“Ask Chief Olabode George why he has never won his polling unit for PDP in over 20 years. I won mine for PDP in both the Presidential and Governorship elections,” he said.
Jandor further alleged that while the PDP’s national leadership pleaded with him to reconsider his resignation, the Lagos chapter engaged in a smear campaign against him.
