Tragedy struck on Friday as the Zaria Central Mosque in Kaduna state crumbled during the Asr prayer, resulting in five worshippers losing their lives and seven sustaining injuries.
His Highness, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, confirmed the distressing incident.
The worshippers were observing their prayers at approximately 4 pm when the mosque’s structure gave way.
Speaking to reporters, the Emir disclosed, “A crack had been noticed on the mosque’s wall a day prior, and we were in the process of organizing a team of skilled civil engineers to address the issue. Regrettably, this unfortunate event unfolded before we could take remedial action.”
He offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and earnestly prayed for the forgiveness of their sins, beseeching Allah to grant them a place in aljannah firdaus.
The Emir further mandated that worshippers offer their prayers outside the mosque while repair work is undertaken.
Simultaneously, the Emir directed that the funeral prayers for the deceased be held at 8.30 pm at the emir’s palace, in strict adherence to Islamic customs and traditions.
