Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested three suspects over the gruesome killing of a couple allegedly accused of witchcraft in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims, identified as Abdullah Adamu, 58, and his wife, Habiba Ibrahim, 45, were reportedly attacked and killed in Tabga/Dogon Ruwa village, Bashar District, following allegations of witchcraft.
The arrests were made on Wednesday by troops of Sector 2, Operation Enduring Peace, after security operatives received information about the killings.
According to a report by counter-insurgency publication, Zagazola Makama, which cited security sources, two of the suspects were identified as Hussaini Mallam Yusufu, 22, and Ishaku Sule, 24, while the identity of the third suspect had yet to be disclosed.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the suspects claimed during interrogation that they had dreamt that Ibrahim was a witch.
The alleged justification for the killings has raised fresh concerns over the resort to superstition and extrajudicial violence, particularly the deadly consequences of witchcraft accusations in rural communities.
The suspects are currently being held in military custody and have reportedly been profiled for further investigation and necessary action..
