A combined team of security agencies in Ondo State has arrested five illegal miners operating at Ilu-Agbo, in River Oluwa, in the Ese-Odo local government area of the state.
The suspects, David Ayara, David Monday, Bonima Boluwatife, Stanley Odoh and Wisdom Nomiye, were all nabbed over the weekend in a sting operation following an intelligence report about their unwholesome activities.
It was gathered that the operation was led by personnel of the DSS, the Amotekun Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and officials from the State Ministry of Minerals and Energy, State Ministry of Environment, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Speaking during the operation, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mining, Honourable (Mrs) Omowunmi Sipasi-Aluko, said several warnings issued by the government in the past fell on the deaf ears of the miners in the area.
