The Julius Abure faction of the Labour Party has delivered a scathing assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, urging a comprehensive evaluation of his government’s performance.
In a press conference held in Abeokuta on Monday, the faction’s Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, rated the administration a mere 2.5 out of 10, emphasizing that Nigeria has failed to make significant progress under Tinubu’s leadership.
“The bitter truth is that even under President Tinubu, Nigeria has not moved forward,” Arabambi stated, expressing concerns over the stagnant state of the economy and broader governance issues.
He attributed this stagnation to a “lack of political will and capacity” among past administrations, which he claims have neglected good governance, equity, and justice essential for comprehensive national development.
The Labour Party faction did not hold back in its criticisms, particularly targeting key figures within the government.
Arabambi demanded the immediate dismissal of ministers and heads of government agencies who have not contributed meaningfully to the nation’s advancement.
He specifically called for the removal of Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, claiming that the oil sector has not been managed in a way that benefits the average Nigerian.
Furthermore, Arabambi urged President Tinubu to take decisive action against the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), whose inefficiencies have exacerbated Nigeria’s chronic power supply challenges.
“They have done too poorly to address the challenge of the epileptic power supply in the country,” he remarked.
As Nigeria approaches its 64th Independence anniversary, the faction emphasized the need for a cabinet reshuffle, advocating for appointments based on competence and merit rather than political affiliations.
“Nigerians deserve so much more than we are currently receiving under this government,” Arabambi asserted.
The criticisms extended to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), particularly concerning its handling of corruption allegations against former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Arabambi suggested that the EFCC’s actions appeared to be politically motivated, claiming that Bello’s treatment resembled a “hatchet job” rather than a legitimate investigation.
He highlighted the incongruity of declaring Bello wanted only to allow him to leave after presenting himself to the agency.
