In a heartening turn of events, a compassionate individual has stepped forward to address the dire state of the Soyoye-Rounder road in the Abeokuta-North local government area of Ogun State, just over two months after PLATFORM TIMES highlighted the road’s lamentable condition.
Once a bustling thoroughfare, the Soyoye-Rounder road had transformed into a symbol of despair, causing agony for hundreds of residents who grappled with its crumbling surface daily.
This vital artery, linking users to essential services and livelihoods, had become a perilous journey marked by confusion, frustration, and excruciating pains.
The road’s deplorable state left countless Ogun residents stranded, navigating treacherous potholes and dilapidated sections, praying for a safe passage with every venture.
However, a ray of hope emerged on Thursday (December 28) when an anonymous resident generously released funds to community leaders, initiating palliative works on the critical road.
PLATFORM TIMES, quick to respond to the development, sought the perspective of the Community Development Council (CDC) leadership.
Musiliu Adisa Anifowose, Chairman of Ifelajulo Area CDC in Abeokuta-North, expressed gratitude for the individual’s philanthropy, highlighting the community’s collective effort.
Anifowose stated, “This is self-help work as encouraged by the government. People contribute for this exercise, and an individual sponsored it with the support of the communities.”
He emphasized the challenges faced by road users, including damaged vehicles and frequent tricycle accidents during the rainy season, leaving people stranded on their journeys to Soyoye and Rounder.
Addressing the government’s role, Anifowose acknowledged previous attempts to seek intervention, saying, “We wrote a lot of letters to the government. The government is aware of the condition of this road. The government has pledged to fix this road.”
He mentioned that the matter had been taken to the state House of Assembly through their representative, Hon Tella.
Regarding their demands, Anifowose stressed, “We want the government to help rehabilitate it.
“What you see us doing is self-help. Most of the vehicles belong to the people in the community. We decided to do this palliative work on the road before the government comes with the total rehabilitation.”
Vice Chairman Alhaji Kola Olayiwola corroborated, affirming that the palliative work was funded by an anonymous good Samaritan in support of the Dapo Abiodun administration.
Olayiwola shed light on the challenges faced by road users, emphasizing the losses incurred by interstate travelers due to damaged vehicles and goods, as well as the struggles faced by pregnant women on the dilapidated road.
