In a surprising turn of events, members of the former Rivers State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign council for the 2023 general elections have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rivers State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara.

Addressing the press in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, the former director general of the PDP campaign council, revealed that the group had unanimously declared its support for President Tinubu and Governor Fubara.

Sekibo explained that following a meeting of the former Rivers State PDP Presidential Campaign Council and members of the PDP in Rivers State, they decided to back President Tinubu, affirming the Supreme Court’s verdict on his presidency.

He emphasized their commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and President Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the nation’s economy and promote peace.

Regarding Governor Fubara, Sekibo asserted that since his democratic election and confirmation by the Supreme Court, they had no choice but to extend their total loyalty and support to him for the progress of Rivers State.

He urged both Governor Fubara and President Tinubu to collaborate for the benefit of the people.

However, Sekibo expressed dismay over recent disturbances in the state, attributing them to the actions of an individual he accused of abusing power and causing unrest.

He also cautioned against tribal divisions and condemned attempts to undermine peace and stability.

The former secretary to the state government further cautioned President Tinubu about appointees, advising vigilance over their conduct and character.

He warned against potential disruptions by certain individuals and stressed the need to maintain peace and governance continuity in Rivers State.

Joining the discourse, former national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, assured that Governor Fubara would secure a second term in 2027, regardless of present challenges.

He pledged the party’s unwavering support for Governor Fubara’s leadership.
