An Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu, Kano State, has exonerated Auwal Danladi Sankara, Jigawa State Commissioner of Special Duties, of adultery allegations involving a married woman.
The case was filed by Nasiru Buba, who accused Sankara of having an illicit relationship with his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
However, the presiding judge, Ibrahim Sarki Yola, dismissed the case after an investigation by the Assistant Inspector General of Police found no evidence to support the allegations.
Delivering his judgment, Sarki Yola emphasized the importance of thorough investigations by law enforcement and regulatory bodies, including the Hisbah Commission, particularly in cases involving prominent figures.
He cautioned against reckless accusations that could damage reputations.
“Following the investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the report shows there is no evidence to prove that there was any illicit affair between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu,” Yola stated.
The judge also noted that the complainant, Nasiru Buba, and his legal representatives were absent during the hearing to challenge the police findings.
“Since the complainant and his lawyers are not present to contest the submission by the police, I have no choice but to strike out the case,” he declared.
Reacting to the ruling, Sankara’s counsel, Barrister Sadam Suleiman, expressed relief and satisfaction.
“We have always maintained that our client is innocent.
The court has affirmed this by clearing his name based on the police investigation,” Suleiman said.
Meanwhile, Rabiu Shu’aibu, counsel for Tasleem Baba Nabegu, hinted at the possibility of legal action against Nasiru Buba for defamation.
“We will discuss with our client to explore the possibility of filing a case against Nasiru Buba, as he has defamed her name,” Shu’aibu remarked.
The case underscores the need for due diligence in handling sensitive allegations, particularly when they involve public figures, to ensure justice and protect the integrity of all parties involved.
