Budget Defence: Ogun Assembly Orders Probe Into MAPOLY Ventures

The Ogun State House of Assembly has mandated the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, to provide comprehensive documentation for all the institution’s business ventures.

This directive was issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Musefiu Lamidi, during the ongoing 2025 budget defence session involving Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the omission of MAPOLY’s business ventures in its 2025 budget proposal, Lamidi emphasized the need for an investigation into the operations of the ventures.

“The committee is interested in probing all MAPOLY ventures, and you need to provide supporting documents for the petrol station, bakery, and other ventures. We want details on the contractors, terms, and conditions,” Lamidi stated.

The committee directed the institution to submit the required documents by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, warning that failure to comply could impact the approval of MAPOLY’s 2025 budget.

Speaking further, Lamidi noted that the omission raised concerns about potential revenue leakages.

“The government needs to block revenue leakages to ensure sufficient funds for developmental projects in the state,” he said.

The committee’s inquiry will cover ventures such as the polytechnic’s petrol station and bakery, among others, which were reportedly leased to private contractors.

The MAPOLY delegation to the budget defence was led by its Rector, Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso, who pledged to comply with the committee’s directive.

He said the  probe aims to ensure accountability and transparency in the institution’s financial dealings, aligning with the state government’s commitment to fiscal discipline.
