The Onye Ndu Ndigbo of Ogun State, His Highness Willy Okonkwo Ejimnkeonye, has expressed appreciation to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), Governor Dapo Abiodun and other dignitaries for their contributions to the successful celebration of the 2026 Igbo Day and his 20th anniversary.
Ejimnkeonye, who made the commendation in a press statement issued after the celebration, particularly acknowledged Adeola, who was represented at the event by the Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Olaolu Olabintan.
The traditional leader described the celebration as a significant platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people while strengthening inter-ethnic relationships, unity and peaceful coexistence in Ogun State.
He said the presence of traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, religious leaders and other stakeholders demonstrated solidarity with the Igbo community and recognition of its contributions to the state’s social, cultural and economic development.
Ejimnkeonye also appreciated individuals, corporate organisations, community groups and well-wishers who supported the event through financial donations, material contributions and other forms of assistance.
He said the success of the celebration would not have been possible without the commitment and sacrifices of the donors, sponsors and other supporters.
The Onye Ndu Ndigbo further acknowledged Governor Abiodun, members of the planning committee, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Onun Owu, Eze Udos, Ogbu Efis, community leaders, local chapter representatives, volunteers, cultural groups and security personnel for their respective contributions.
He also recognised the support of the governor’s Special Adviser on Ethnic Matters, media organisations and other individuals who worked behind the scenes to ensure the success of the occasion.
Reaffirming his commitment to peaceful coexistence, Ejimnkeonye said his leadership philosophy was anchored on peace, fairness, unity and inclusiveness, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic differences.
According to him, Ogun State belongs to everyone who lives, works and contributes to its development, stressing that the Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa and other ethnic nationalities must continue to coexist in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding.
He said, “Our diversity should remain a source of strength rather than division. The Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa and other ethnic nationalities must continue to work together in an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect and understanding.”
The traditional leader added that his palace remained open to everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic background or religious belief.
He urged members of the Igbo community and other residents of the state to sustain the spirit of unity demonstrated during the celebration and support initiatives aimed at promoting security, economic development and cultural preservation.
Ejimnkeonye said the successful hosting of the event had strengthened his resolve to build bridges across ethnic communities and contribute meaningfully to the development of Ogun State.
Meanwhile, the Onye Ndu Ndigbo appealed to Senator Adeola to schedule an official visit to the Igbo community at the Prince of Peace Palace in Ifo, Ogun State.
He said such a visit would provide another opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the senator and the Igbo community in the state.
The traditional ruler concluded by expressing gratitude to all those who contributed financially, materially and through their time and goodwill, praying for God’s blessings upon them.
He reaffirmed the Igbo community’s commitment to the peace, unity and progress of Ogun State and Nigeria.
