Former President Muhammadu Buhari has clarified his stance on the revocation of a plot of land linked to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation in Abuja.

He stated categorically that he is not the owner of the land in question, which was allocated to the Foundation.

This clarification came through a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, on Thursday, in response to the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) recent revocation of 763 plots of land, including the one linked to the Foundation.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had ordered the revocation of the plots located in Maitama District, citing non-compliance with financial obligations.

Additionally, the FCTA gave 614 other plot owners a two-week deadline to settle their outstanding bills for the Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) or risk losing their allocations.

According to public notices issued by the FCTA, the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation owes N1.23 billion for plot number 4873.

Shehu explained that the Foundation, which was established by individuals close to Buhari, faced significant challenges in obtaining the necessary documentation for the land.

“The Foundation was floated by some utilitarian individuals around him who went about it lawfully with the support of well-meaning persons.

However, they encountered a roadblock in the land department of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), which handed them an outrageous bill for the issuance of the certificate of occupancy,” Shehu said.

He suggested that the excessive billing might not have been an error but a deliberate action, making the revocation unsurprising.

Shehu further clarified that Buhari personally owns a plot of land in Abuja, which he acquired lawfully.

However, during his tenure as President, he declined an offer to acquire an additional plot
