Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday, held a closed-door meeting with a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Osun governor, Chief Bisi Akande, in Ibadan, Oyo State, amid heightened political tensions over local government administration in Osun.
Adeleke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), visited Akande—an ally of President Bola Tinubu—alongside some of his cabinet members.
While details of the meeting remain undisclosed, political analysts believe the engagement signals a strategic move in the ongoing power tussle over local governments in the state.
The visit comes against the backdrop of a heated face-off between the PDP-led state government and the opposition APC following a Court of Appeal ruling on February 10, 2025, which favoured the APC’s claim to local government administration.
The verdict led to a violent struggle for control of council secretariats, resulting in the deaths of at least four people.
Despite initial resistance from PDP supporters, Governor Adeleke later instructed his party members to withdraw, allowing APC officials to take charge of local government offices.
He also directed newly elected PDP local government chairmen and councillors not to assume office until all legal disputes were resolved.
