Tragedy struck at Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State on Tuesday night as armed bandits stormed the premises, shooting a prominent medical doctor and abducting five individuals.
The victim, Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, a celebrated indigene of Kankara Local Government Area, was shot by the assailants during the attack.
The bandits also took five others hostage, whisking them away to an undisclosed location.
Dandashire, who was widely recognized as the overall best graduating medical student of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2019, is renowned for his dedication to community health services.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, a crisis journalist known as Bakatsine lamented the increasing vulnerability of hospitals across Katsina State to attacks by armed groups.
“This is the third reported hospital invasion in the state within three months. Kurfi General Hospital and Mai Tsani Hospital in Dutsin-Ma LGA were previously targeted,” he stated, calling for enhanced security in healthcare facilities.
The attack has sparked outrage, with many residents demanding urgent action to protect critical institutions in the state.
As of press time, security operatives were yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and the whereabouts of the abducted victims remain unknown.
