Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media that he collapsed at an event in Abuja last week.
Speaking on Thursday after inspecting four ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), Wike described the reports as the handiwork of “baseless” individuals attempting to score cheap political points.
The minister’s response comes amid viral posts on X (formerly Twitter) alleging that he collapsed last Friday during an engagement in the FCT and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
However, Wike categorically debunked the claims, stating that he remained in good health and actively carrying out his ministerial duties.
His media aide, Lere Olayinka, also refuted the rumours, describing them as “false and misleading.” He urged the public to disregard the misinformation, emphasizing that the minister had not suffered any health crisis.
Wike, who has been at the center of political discussions in recent weeks, said the false reports were orchestrated by his detractors who seek to create unnecessary panic and confusion.
“Some people are jobless and think the best way to stay relevant is by spreading lies. I have not collapsed; I am here, working, and inspecting projects,” Wike stated.
The FCT minister assured residents of Abuja that his administration remains focused on delivering infrastructural development and enhancing the capital city’s standard of living.
