    Kaduna: Bandits gun down herders, rustle cows

    Bandits have gunned down two herders identified as Mudda Shannon and Suleiman Bello, while injuring one other at Kurmin Lemu village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

    A member of Kurim Lemu community, Shuaibu Ibrahim, said the incident happened around 12:07 am, on Thursday.

    He said the bandits who came in large numbers welding sophisticated weapons.

    He said one of the herders narrowly escaped but sustained bullets injuries, adding that the bandits went straight to where the cows were camped and moved them into the forest.

    Ibrahim  said the injured herder was later taken to the hospital in Kagarko town, where he is undergoing treatment, even as he said the troops stationed at Kagarko were alerted.

    “Some troops stationed at Kagarko were alerted, even before they could arrived at the camp, the bandits haf escaped with the cows,” he said.

    A community leader, who prefferred anonymity, also confirmed the incident to our reporter via telephone.

    He said he received report from one of the leaders of herders from the community.

    “It was this morning I even received information from one of the Fulani chiefs from Kurmin Lemu village; he said bandits attacked herders camp and killed two persons and later rustled their cows,” he said.

    The community leader disclosed that he had also informed the troops about the attack, even as he said the remains of the two deceased herders had been buried.

    The spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comments as calls put across to him were unanswered as at the time of filling this report.
