The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), has launched a School Anti-Trafficking Vanguard in Edo State.
The initiative which is under the School Anti-Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project (STEAP) and funded by the Netherlands government, aims to equip school principals and coordinators with the knowledge to educate students about human trafficking.
NAPTIP’s Director-General, Hajia Binta Adamu-Bello, represented by the Director of Research and Programme Development, Josiah Emerole, said “We have infused trafficking issues into the curriculum, but teachers must understand these issues so they can effectively educate their students.”

ICMPD’s Head of PAN Africa Region, Ms. Monica Zanette, represented by Project Manager Amarachi Chike-Jerry, said the programme would ensure schools become safe spaces where children are protected from exploitation.
STEAP Project Manager, Rhoda Dia-Johnson, said the programme focuses on prevention by raising awareness and building the capacity of educators to shield children from traffickers.
