The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) says it will soon start generating about N200 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) per annum, up from the N65 billion recorded in 2024.
KIRS Executive Chairman, Dr Zaid Abubakar, disclosed this during the maiden dinner and awards night of the agency in Kano on Thursday.
He explained that with the mechanisms put in place so far, the service is optimistic of generating at least N150 billion having blocked many leakages in the generation process.

The chairman explained that with the deployment of new electronic tax system, the state is on a mission of registering two million taxpayers whom he said would easily make the N200bn annual target feasible.
“Despite the challenges in 2024, KIRS has recorded significant feats in the area of revenue generation. Just with the deployment of our new electronic tax system, which requires National Identification Number (NIN) for registration, we are now witnessing steady increase in NIN enrolment in Kano state, with an estimated 10.2 million NIN enrollees in the state.
“We are on a mission to register two million taxpayers in Kano State and each of them is expected to contribute not less than a N100,000 per annum. If you arithmetically multiply that by two million, that will give you N200 bn. That is why we are very deliberate in ensuring that our tax system must have in it NIN enrollment,” the chairman said.
The state’s Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya, lamented that the state had previously suffered from poor revenue generation due to leakages.
Danmaraya, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Sabiu Shuaibu Muhammad, said since the assumption of the current KIRS Chairman, the state has been recording steady increase in its IGR and is confident that with the tools put in place, the set target is achievable.
During the event, two most outstanding staff members were given the KIRS allocation of two houses at the Renewed Hope Housing City in the state.
