Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He announced this on Friday at the Government House in Uyo, the state capital.
This comes days after the governor said it was time for him to move to the APC.
“It is time to move” and align the state to APC at the federal level, Eno had said at a town hall meeting in Ikot Abasi.
According to the governor, the decision followed “three months of wide consultation” with critical stakeholders across the state.
Eno expressed his gratitude to the PDP for their support during his tenure, stating that it was time for him to make a progressive move.
Eno said he decided to join the APC, citing his admiration for President Bola Tinubu and the need for Akwa Ibom State to align with the federal government to reap continuous benefits.
The governor also assured the people of Akwa Ibom State that he would continue to work tirelessly for their benefit, regardless of party affiliation.
“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” he said.
Eno was officially received into the party by some APC governors including the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; Bassey Otu of Cross River State; Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
Others were Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
