ACF mourns Prof. Jibril Aminu, Justice Uwais

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed its condolences over the death of Professor Jibril Aminu, a professor of medicine, dedicated public servant, diplomat, nationalist, humanist and distinguished politician and Justice Muhammad Uwais, a retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, towering national figure, frontline jurist, elder statesman and nationalist, professional.

ACF, in a separate statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, said the news of the demise of Aminu and Uwais has left a huge vacuum in the North and the country at large.

According to the statement, “Words will not be very adequate to do justice to Professor Amin’s prowess and excellent records of prodigious service to the nation and the world at large. It is no exaggeration to say that anywhere he had served, Professor Aminu’s name was one to behold in awe, and sometimes, majesty.

“There is therefore no doubt that Professor Aminu has left behind a record of service very hard to beat, with immense contributions to education, political economy, public service, political development and good governance, in which outings he will be best remembered for giving nothing but his very best, yet with admirable characteristic humility, as opposed to the reconditeness and shenanigans that usually accompany these attributes.”

He extended ACF’s condolences to Professor Jibril Aminu’s family and friends, to Nigeria, the government and people of Adamawa State, political associates, the National Assembly, UI, and academia in general, his numerous mentees and beneficiaries over the sad demise of this truly distinguished citizen.

The statement added, “ACF notes with nostalgia and pride that late Justice Uwais was from the crop of Arewa’s young educated young individuals who were carefully picked and encouraged to pursue legal studies and qualify as lawyers in the United Kingdom, by the visionary Premier of the Northern Region of Nigeria, the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardaunan Sokoto.

“That crop of pioneers, each of whom brought along intellectual pedigrees, was each to pursue distinguished professional careers in the service of the judiciary. Indeed, most, if not all, rose to the pinnacle of the profession as justices of the Appeal and Supreme Courts, with many serving as Presidents of the Appeal Court, Justices and Chief Justices of the Supreme Court.”

He described the late Justice Uwais as one of the finest in his professional group who brought a lot of finesse, poise, and intellect to his practice at the Bench.

“He was also a committed nationalist, elder, and a voice of reason and moderation in the often noisy and grandstanding stances in national discourses. His acclaimed records of service and contributions to national and international development will remain a reference source material for many generations to come,” the statement added.
