The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his readiness to resign from office if his claims against former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as contained in the forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), are proven to be false.
Wike, who made the bold statement during an interview on a private Television on Friday, alleged that the audit report exposed deep-rooted corruption involving top allies of Amaechi during his tenure as Rivers State governor.
“I will resign as minister of the FCT if it is a lie that the forensic report of the NDDC showed that someone was collecting N4 billion monthly,” Wike said with emphasis, daring critics to challenge the authenticity of the report.
He further accused Amaechi of compromising his office by accepting a Rolls Royce gift from former Senator John Azuta Mbata while serving as governor, questioning the moral ground of those pointing fingers at others.
According to the FCT Minister, the audit report was deliberately buried by a former minister under the Buhari-led administration to shield powerful interests.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make the report public, describing it as a crucial document that could unveil the rot in the NDDC.
Wike also took a swipe at the leadership of the recently restructured African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing them as the “worst of the nation” and dismissing the opposition coalition’s chances of displacing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.
He singled out former Senate President David Mark, now a leading figure in the ADC, claiming that despite his two-term leadership of the National Assembly, he failed to deliver meaningful development to his constituency.
The former Rivers State governor also revealed details of his political history with Amaechi, stating that he once fought for him to become governor but has since grown disillusioned by what he described as “hypocrisy and self-serving politics.”
Wike’s comments come amid heightened political realignment and power play following the defection of several APC stalwarts to the ADC, including David Mark and former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola.
The Minister’s fiery remarks have sparked reactions within political circles, as the battle for control ahead of 2027 continues to gather steam.
