Over 200 residents of Adehun community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by Great Standard Montessori Model School, Abeokuta.
The outreach, held on Friday, was part of the school’s ongoing humanitarian initiative to promote health awareness and provide essential medical care to underserved members of the community.
Speaking during the event, the proprietress of the school, Mrs. Nofisat Akingbade, said the programme, which began in 2023, was designed not only to meet the medical needs of residents but also to instil values of empathy and social responsibility in the pupils.
“Our pupils participated actively, and the experience was eye-opening for them. It changed their mindset and taught them the importance of kindness and compassion, especially towards people who are less privileged,” Akingbade stated.
She explained that the 2025 edition focused on basic medical checkups including tests for blood sugar, hypertension, and malaria.
Beneficiaries also received free medications courtesy of the school’s partnership with Adehun Health Centre and medical personnel from Ijaye General Hospital.
“So far, we’ve attended to over 160 people, with a target of 250. Many were overwhelmed with gratitude, especially considering the rising cost of drugs in the country,” she added.
Akingbade called on government at all levels to intensify efforts at making healthcare services and essential drugs more affordable and accessible to the public.
Several beneficiaries who spoke to PLATFORM TIMES commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
Mrs. Tosin Odedina, a resident of the area, said, “So many people are living with undiagnosed illnesses because they can’t afford hospital visits.
“This outreach gave them a chance to know their health status and receive treatment at no cost. The medical team was thorough and professional.”
Another participant, Mr. Adedigba Omibiyegbe, said he was encouraged by the initiative and urged others with means to emulate the gesture.
“In this harsh economy, acts like this bring real relief. I hope more organisations and individuals will rise to support the less privileged,” he said.
The outreach underscores the growing role of private institutions in promoting community health and social welfare, especially in underserved areas.
