Tension gripped the Niger State Government House on Friday evening after a man, simply identified as Gregory, collapsed and died during a visit to one of the official residences within the premises in Minna.
The incident occurred at House No. 8 in the Government House Lodge around 9:30 p.m. on August 2. Gregory was said to have arrived at the location to meet the Chairman of the Niger Food Security Systems and Logistics Company Limited, Sammy Adigun.
Sources told PLATFORM TIMES that Gregory appeared visibly distressed upon learning that his host was not available. Moments later, he reportedly collapsed on the premises.
Medical personnel from the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna, were immediately contacted for emergency assistance. However, efforts to revive him proved futile as he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the development. In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the police said they received a report of a “suspected sudden death” from the Chief Security Officer of the Government House.
“On the 2nd of August, 2025 at about 9:30 p.m., a report of suspected sudden death was received from the CSO Government House, Minna, which indicated that a guest who was identified as Gregory became unconscious in one of the government house lodges,” Abiodun said.
He added that police operatives attached to the GRA Division were deployed to the scene and took the man to the IBB Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue, and an autopsy is expected to determine the cause of death.
The state government and relevant security agencies have yet to issue further details on the incident.
