A disturbing video has surfaced online showing armed vigilante operatives assaulting and stripping a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on July 23, 2025, at a corps members’ lodge, involved men believed to be members of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group.
The victim, identified as Jennifer Edema Elohor, was seen in the viral footage being beaten and stripped naked by men carrying rifles, despite presenting her NYSC identity card to prove her status.
The rights group, Haven 360 Foundation, which released the footage on Facebook, condemned the attack, describing it as “a brutal assault and violation of human dignity.”
According to the organisation, the vigilantes accused the corps members of engaging in internet fraud, commonly referred to as “yahoo-yahoo.”
”On July 23, 2025, these state actors stormed the corpers’ lodge, accusing the members of being internet fraudsters despite their prompt production of NYSC identification cards and uniforms.
The assault was particularly egregious in the case of Jennifer, who was stripped naked, left bleeding, and subjected to degrading threats,” the group stated.
It further alleged that the vigilantes used sexually offensive language against the corps members, with threats suggesting possible sexual assault.
The shocking incident has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who are demanding accountability from both the Anambra State Government and security agencies over the role of vigilante groups operating with impunity in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the NYSC management and Anambra State Police Command were yet to issue official statements on the matter.
